My bead journal project uses hand tracings from people who have helped me throughout my life. This is "The Neighbor." Bone, stone, crystal, and seed beads on wool felt and velvet. 8 1/2 x 11 inches.

This is a fabulous idea and such incredible beading! I did the click to enlarge and am so impressed with it in many ways... LOVE your border stitching and color choices... Love everything about it. Makes me want to know more about you and what your neighbor did for you.

I'd also like to know who you are...

Thanks for your kind comments.

My neighbor is an African American. He is a complex person. I finally decided that his strong cultural pride would be most pertinent for this piece. He wears a ring like the one I beaded.

To make a long story short, we have been close neighbors for 35 years. Whether the going is tough or easy, we can count on the neighbor for help, and he can count on us. Because Anchorage people are mostly from somewhere else and always moving, a close neighbor relationship is rare.

I'm Judy Robinson. I am friends with other Anchorage beaders, including Rebecca Starry (who got us started with BJ), Linda Myers, Jeannie Bench, Vivian Noll and Debra Smith (lamentably now a Texas resident).
