Finally Starting My February "page"...

Despite the fact that I haven't finished January yet, I got a start on my February piece.  I hit the wall on January due to an inferior product that I was using.  I have seed beads coming in the mail and as soon as they arrive I'll finally be able to wrap up January - yay!  I've got February "designed" in my head, and started laying out the fibers for the vessel.  For a little peek at my fibers and my inspiration, you can check out my blog.

January Problem, February Start

Everyone is doing so well, I get really excited visiting your blogs to see what you're up to.  Happy beading to all of you!

February Swatch Done

The fantasy dressmaker has completed her February swatch, see it here.

I'm enjoying creating these pieces and am looking forward to creating all the backgrounds to accompany the swatches.

February Goddess completed

February flowed nicely, having a beading partner like Kat has helped me a lot.  We giggle and carry on as we bead each stitch.  I will treasure all of these "beading moments forever".  Thanks Kat.

Some how beading makes me think about when I crocheted you know how your thoughts flow, what your thinking, each piece we make has lots and lots of different thoughts.  Sometimes I wish pieces could talk, but then they really do, in their own way because each of us interprets things differently and see it with your own individual eyes.

You can find my latest updates at http://beads4jody.blogspot.com/

Special thanks to all here who love to bead and share their "beading story" now or in the future....or even if you keep it a secret.  Maybe just maybe every bead has a secret story.

February Doll - The Final Version

I finished my February doll, and managed to accomplish my goal of working in an entirely new color palette. I also tried my hand at bead embroidery, inspired by all you wonderful embroidery artists. :) So far I'm on schedule. I really hope I can keep it up for the rest of the year!

January Piece Finally Done!

I don't have my own blog, but if you are on facebook you can see my January piece in my photo album. It gave me lot's of second thoughts, and I'm still not sure I am happy with it. February is in the works.

Still Working On January...

Oy!  I got sidetracked by a trip to LA, some mom issues over the last 3 weeks, and my tech job commitments - but I've made more progress on January.  I'm now headed out to the family room to do more work on January so I can finally start February - sheesh!  Here's a link to my post with some pix along with an explanation of my theme.

February page posted

I've finished my page for February and have posted it on my blog.

You've got to Have Hearts!

Happy Valentine Everyone....
This is my favorite necklace. I started it several years ago and each year around this time of year I add a few more hearts... The red heart on the upper left was my son's from boy scout stuff about 40 years ago.
I'm very superstitious about this necklace and do indeed believe it gives me "heart" and wear it when I need special or extra strength. I'm always watching for hearts in my thrift store trips.......

Hope everyone is enjoying their journey, I know I am having lots of fun with it!

Avian podiatry

Avian podiatry......diagnosis and treatment of bird foot disorders... After considering options and responses I've decided just to forget the feet on nuthatch. I am only fascinated with it's feet because when this little bird LOOKS like it is walking down the tree trunk, it is actually sidestepping down...which I find that remarkable...
But Robin and others mentioned using wire for the feet and I think that is an exciting solution and by the time I finish the series of 12 birds I'm sure I'll use that suggestion...

February 2nd Try...

I've been completely revising my notion of the bead journal dolls. If you're interested in seeing where I'm going, you can check out my blog, Fresh Monsters. Not sure quite where it's going yet, but I'm having a good time. :)

By the way, Robin, if you're reading, the URL to my blog on the left side of the page isn't correct. It's freshmonsterS.com, not freshmonster.com. If you could fix that, it would be great!

March BJP progress

I'm really focusing on getting more texture in my bead embroidery and the bark on this tree was fun. I just kept layering and weaving lots of colors and several kinds of beads and I'm happy with it except the feet of the red-breasted nuthatch got lost and I'm not sure what to do about that??? Maybe Robin can give me some advice...

progress is on blog....

Art Bead Scene Blog: About the Art Bead Scene

Art Bead Scene Blog: About the Art Bead Scene

fiber book page

Besides my bead journals for this group I'm doing other projects with beading. I've just finished a fiber page with an image of a black hole. Others saw a deep depression in it. Since the theme for the page is "the universe" both interpretations are fine. You can see the picture only here. For the whole (long) post click here. bottom picture shows a textile ATC with a picot edging of beads.

Links

I have been traveling & haven't had access to the internet so I'm sure I've missed something somewhere. But my name doesn't appear on the left hand side of the blog. Actually, my name does but it isn't me :) I'm sorry to post this here but I can't find the e-mail link for sending a note to those in charge at the moment. Here is my blog (yes, I need to add to it)

I have been working on my pieces but haven't photographed them yet. Will do soon. I am making small pieces to place on the front of a journal. I will have a journal for each month of the year and will write things I've done that month into the journal. The goal is to use it year to year to see what different things I do or feel from one year to the next.

I'm in Australia at present and am definitely enjoying the warm instead of sitting in Chicago with the cold!

January

Hi all,

This is my first post here. I have not been very good at keeping up with the blog world as life tends to get in the way. I tend to spend most of my free time beading lately and that is pure joy for me!

This is my third year participating in the BJP. All my past work on the BJP can be viewed on my blog if you have not seen it and are interested.

I finished up my piece for January and just posted about it on my blog - details and photos can be found there.

Nice to see so many participants jump right in and having fun with it. Glad to meet you all.

Take care,
Grace

Back from the Precipice!

Well I almost didn't make it!! I was overwhelmed with indecision and doubt that I could follow through. My word for this year is Focus and after reading several of the posts here and Robin's post about her January Piece for this year, I knew that I had to carry on!

The Blank Canvas of the project was staring me in the face and I stared it down! January is done. I am pleased with it and I have charted my course for the remainder of the project. I have posted details and pictures on my blog and you can read all about it here.

For now, we are sitting waiting for the arrival of a massive snow storm. Schools have been canceled and not a flake has fallen, but all are calling for 16-24 inches of snow! In this part of Virginia this is a huge amount of snow. We may not surface for several days if things evolve as expected!! Let it snow, I have my February page to create!!!
Best Regards to All!!!

If at first you don't succeed...

After taking a good, hard look at my finished February doll, I decided to disassemble her for parts and start fresh. Those who are interested in noble failures can see photos and descriptions of the problem and the process on my Fresh Monsters blog.

Good thing it's still the beginning of the month!

Exciting week

I haven't got very far with the beading but the power of the BJP community is great. I have just had Susan Rochlin (mermaids jewels) to stay. She found me via the BJP and we had two nights talking beading. It was great.
My theme is sorted - friends inspiring music and the first month background is done. Need to bead this weekend now.

February Doll, Stage I & II

It's so wonderful to be able to follow everyone's work! I love reading about the process by which your pieces evolve. In the same spirit, I'm trying to blog about the various stages of my own journal projects, so here's a description of the first stage of my February doll...

[UPDATED]: I've made it to Stage II today, which I didn't expect. The base and bezel layer of the beaded cabochon went more quickly than I thought they would. :)

Water Horse - Part Two

I wanted to thank everyone for all the kind comments and also answer the questions raised - I've posted "Water Horse - Part Two" on my blog.

Thanks again,

Following Blogs (or why I use Google Reader)

Kelly posted on the Bead Journal Project 3 blog about using Google Alerts to follow BJP posts. This was a great suggestion and here's another:

I follow a lot of blogs. Depending on the blogger, I may read all or none of a post, or just look at the pictures. But rather than have a favorites list miles long or get a million post update emails, I use Google Reader to subscribe to the blogs I follow. I add the blog (or even a site that's not a blog!) using the Add Subscription tool and it is added to my feed.

This saves me lots of time going back to my favorite blogs only to see that they haven't posted anything new and I don't miss any posts. :)

A Garden for the Birds - Installment Two

Since the magpie was already done I am able to post Installment Two- "A New Plan"..... for February..
http://olderrose.blogspot.com

Next month will be "Let the Mulching Begin" Thanks to everyone who is following the saga of my garden for the birds...

Spirit of Haiti

I have been working on my January BJ, but I have not finished it. The hair is taking a time consuming and I see not end in sight. But I will keep plugging away at it. For an update check out my blog.
In the meantime I need to start February's project, but at least I have the size figured out. That was the hard part in getting started on the January one.
